ExperienceMy professional career has included counselling in various settings including mental health, child welfare, developmental, vocational, youth services, education, and family/marital relations. In addition to counselling, I have been the Executive Director for the non-profit Family Counselling Services in Guelph, Moncton, Fredericton, and Kingston where I provided clinical supervision and direction to counsellors practicing couples, family, and individual counselling and therapy.
Believing that a counsellor can only guide his/her clients as far as (s)he has developed oneself, I have invested heavily in my own personal growth experiences. In particular, I have 26 years in men's groups, as well as participation in many personal and professional growth groups. I also believe that the heart of all personal change lies in focusing upon those blocks to having a satisfying life and taking practical steps to changing our thoughts and patterns of behaviour. It is paramount also that we have trust and confidence in the counsellor we choose and the skills that person has. In life experience, I bring years of successful parenting and relationship experiences, and continue to benefit from the role of being grandfather, stepfather, father, son and husband. Counselling ApproachI bring to my practice a practical, realistic, solution-focused orientation that pays attention to observable positive outcomes. This approach is informed in training in several therapeutic theories and practices.
